Why use a certified bookkeeper?
I have just returned from the privilege of attending the New Zealand Bookkeepers Association
Conference. I am very proud to call myself a certified member of the organisation. But what does
that mean for you, the business owner, when you are considering hiring a bookkeeper?
In New Zealand there is no licensing for the profession.
There is no real way to measure a bookkeeper’s skills for a business owner, other than by
referral. But what if you don’t know anyone who can refer you to a suitable person?
Bookkeepers certified by the New Zealand Bookkeepers Association are all tested to ensure they
know their skills, they must follow a strict code of ethics and also a strict programme of continuing
professional development. You know you are getting someone who is competent and up to the job
you are asking them to do.
The NZBAI is the bookkeeping industry’s professional body. Founded in 2010 to provide a forum
where bookkeepers nationwide could find help, guidance and support, its key functions include setting
industry standards and encouraging bookkeeping certification.
So if you are thinking of hiring a bookkeeper to help you with your business, give us a call and know
that you are in good hands.
